Health system strengthening: Training health workers

Health system strengthening: Training health workers. During the programme, Aga Khan Foundation and Aga Khan Health Services trained more than 1,700 medical practitioners across Eastern Africa; much of the training was delivered through digital platforms, making it easier to cascade learnings to other staff, including outreach workers in remote communities. In Kisumu, health workers received Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) training through Simulation Learning Systems (SLS).

Youth livelihoods: Omar's story

Youth livelihoods: Omar's story. Omar is a chicken farmer from Diani, Kenya. Through a local organisation, the Human Development Agenda (HUDA), he has received business and entrepreneurship training which has helped him improve his business. Omar also received Rapid Responds Funds from the Aga Khan Foundation to make further improvements to his business, which have included building a secure keep for his chickens and purchasing better feed.

Youth livelihoods: Peris' story. After finishing high school, Peris wanted to start earning an income, but she lacked vocational skills and her family couldn't afford to send her to the local college in her hometown of Ukunda, Kenya. She heard about a scholarship scheme supported by the Aga Khan Foundation, and was selected to start a course at a local college to develop her skills in refrigeration and air conditioning maintenance. Now, she has the skills to apply for a job and becoming financially independent.

Rapid Response Funds: Beatrice's story

Rapid Response Funds: Beatrice's story. Beatrice is a farmer who specialises in using chemical-free fertilisers for her crops. With support from the Aga Khan Foundation (AKF), she has received training from a local Kenyan organisation, SeedSavers, on how to use organic fertilisers and how to store seeds, saving her money. SeedSavers received Rapid Response Funds from AKF to expand its training capacity and support more local farmers like Beatrice.
